I love you so much La Plata, Argentina.

This week the weather played a very dirty trick on the capital of the province. Floods, desperate families, the effort of many lives lost to the waters.

For more than I write, nothing will fill the emptiness left behind. Close friends had lost everything (except what they were wearing), my family without  electricity for more than two days, a baby who had to move temporarily to another city because her parents could not use basic appliances to keep food fresh. And more ...

This week's storm, a few months ago looting supermarkets, a few years ago ... and chaos. But always platenses (that's the way inhabitants of La Plata are called) , Argentines have moved on. That's what's left, look and keep walking forward.


The key thing is to learn that either a natural disaster or a social event, La Plata's, Argentine people need to know that they can, and they can much more. And even more if they work together (at least, that's what I learned abroad!).
 
Do not beg the municipal, provincial or national government. Ask. The executive, legislature and judiciary are people's representatives. You are the people they represent. With or without hierarchies and degrees, authorities are  there to satisfy you and your needs. When an authority works on a public project he is merely reinvesting what you pay in taxes. They only redistribute, they don't do you a favour. They are, so to say, your employees. High, maybe, but in the end all employees.
 If help does not come, don't demand of another who may be in the same or worse situation than you. The municipal, provincial and national authorities are the ones that must fulfil their duties.

I leave two songs. One, "I love you so much" by Sergio Denis. By the way I choose the video with Mirtha and Susana on purpose (Mirtha and Susana are iconic TV and film figures. Mirtha is Argentina's showbiz "royalty" and Susana is the Oprah of Latin America). They may be criticised for other reasons, but what is important here is that both  have been working in the private sector since I remember, and they choose to help (yes, I stress, they choose to help; I say they "choose" because their salaries come from private companies and thereby they are not obliged to share what is theirs). Instead, when an authority, a representative "gives", he doesn't do the same. He is ONLY reinvesting what is yours.
The second song, Pimpinela and "You can", because I'm sure that La Plata, Argentina can and they can a whole lot more.Ask your representatives. Demand what is theirs responsibility (not the next door neighbour). And if you are not satisfied with what they do (no matter what they say, words cannot be eaten) then replace them as you would do with any employee who was inept.

A move on! Never back not even to gain momentum!

 

Te quiero tanto La Plata, Argentina.

Esta semana el tiempo jugaba una muy mala pasada a la Capital de la Provincia. Zonas anegadas, familias desesperadas, el esfuerzo de muchas vidas perdido con las aguas.

Por más que escriba un discurso, nada va a llenar los vacíos que quedaron atrás. Amigos cercanos perdieron todo cuanto tenían (salvo lo puesto), mi familia sin electricidad por más de dos días, una bebe que se tuvo que mudar momentáneamente de ciudad porque los padres no podían usar electrodomésticos básicos para mantener alimentos en buen estado. Y más…

Esta semana la tormenta, hace unos meses saqueos en supermercados, hace unos años el caos… Y siempre los platenses, los argentinos han seguido adelante. Eso es lo que queda, mirar y seguir caminando hacia adelante.

Creo que lo importante es aprender que sea una catástrofe natural o un acontecimiento social, los platenses, los argentinos tienen que saber que se puede, y se puede mucho. Y más aun si trabajan juntos (al menos, es lo que aprendí afuera!).

No pidan al gobierno municipal, provincial o nacional. Exijan. El poder ejecutivo, el legislativo y el judicial lo forman representantes del pueblo. Ustedes son el pueblo, ellos los representan. Con jerarquías y títulos o sin ellos, las autoridades están para satisfacerlos a ustedes y a sus necesidades. Cuando un gobernante se adjudica una obra pública no hace más que reinvertir lo que ustedes le dan con impuestos. Solamente administran, no les hacen favores. Son, a manera de decir, sus empleados. Jerarquizados, puede ser, pero empleados todos al fin.

Si la ayuda no viene o llega, no la exijan de otro que puede estar igual o peor que ustedes. Las autoridades municipales, provinciales y nacionales están para eso.

Les dejo dos temas. Uno, Te quiero tanto con Sergio Denis. A propósito elijo el video con Mirtha y Susana. Se les puede criticar o no pero ninguna es autoridad de gobierno y las dos, que trabajan en lo privado desde que tengo uso de razón, eligen ayudar (si, subrayo, eligen pues ya sea poco o mucho, ellas cobran sueldos de empresas privadas y nada las obliga a compartir lo que quieren). En cambio, cuando un gobernante da, no hace lo mismo. SOLAMENTE REINVIERTE lo que es de USTEDES, lo que les pertenece.

El segundo tema, Pimpinela y Tu Puedes, porque se y estoy seguro que La Plata, Argentina toda puede y mucho.

Pidan más a sus gobernantes. Exijan lo que es suyo no del vecino de al lado pero de sus autoridades. Y si no les satisface lo que hacen (no importa lo que digan, de palabras no se come) los cambian como cambiarían a cualquier empleado inepto.

A seguir adelante! Nunca para atrás ni siquiera para tomar impulse!
